How She SHOULD Have Done It...

I think Michelle McGrath is truly stunning. For some reason she seems to get a lot of flack in the papers and blog world for not being terribly talented, perhaps being a bit of a social climber and even -shock of all shock- a tad pudgie.
All I have to say is that is Michelle's body is pudgie, SIGN ME UP!
However, even the fittest of ladies can photograph badly or just manage to find an unflattering outfit - we all remember Jessica Simpson being shot from below in those god awful high waisted pants!
Anywho, on a night that she should have shown like a bright star at the launch and showcase of her new group 'Industry', Michelle some how ended up looking like the fat cousin mam made you take along to all the discos as a teen even though you begged her not to.
Now, her make up is fab and hair lush as usual, and I totally get the whole simple-yet-elegant-understated-glam look she was going for but, she missed the mark a tiiiiiiiny bit.

Her problem is two fold;

For one, her black shirt and black pants are not the exact same color. I know that might sound nuts but if you wear the shirt untucked with out something in between to break it up, like a belt or a layering t of a different shade, it makes a huge difference.

Secondly, there is no structure to her look and, if you are on the curvy side that is a no can do - ESPECIALLY if you are going to pose next to a super skinny girl (Morgan Deane) who has used a giant belt to cinch her waist further!!

What Michelle should have done was worn a a waist coat that was longer and closed to break up the two colors and give her some much needed boundaries around her mid section. For a girl with a really great body, this outfit is making her look a bit lumpy....Spanx anyone?!?!?Otherwise, cheers Michelle, on the new band, the menswear inspired paired down relaxed get up and being a true Irish beauty. Best of Luck!! xxox

Trend Spotting - Early June '09 - Color Block

Leeeeeeet theeee Sunshinnneee Innnnn!! I know I cannot be alone in feeling like the bright and sunny weather (when we get it!) makes me want to pile on every color of the rainbow into each of my outfits! Luckily, this season there is a booming trend that helps us to get as sunny as we'd like with our fashion choices without looking like a giant Rainbow Bright on crack!
Spring - Summer '09 is all about geometry ladies! Ughhh, I know, I've done my leaving cert too! I'm so over Maths! Don't worry, these geometrical wonders are all about being cute and fun, something none of my maths teachers knew anything about! This year graphic prints and most importantly color blocking are huge. Breaking an outfit up into sections, shapes or blocks (duh!) makes a bold statement with every look you try and may also transform the appearance of your form.
Mixing hues, shades and colors will make any ordinary outfit look one hundred times more fashion forward instantly. Additionally, color blocking creates great optical illusions that you can totally use to your own individual advantage. Let the mixing of different shades either highlight hat you like about your shape or downplay what you aren't quite sold on with you bod. If you think you've got Michelle Obama guns or a killer upper body wear the canary yellow cardi or bright teal tube top. If you think that your bum may fall on the wider end of the spectrum cover it up with a color that falls on the darker en of the spectrum. Look at your closet and wardrobe of summer frocks and pretend you are back at primary school learning about colours for the first time. Complimentary and contrasting and primary and secondary blah blah blah....spin that color wheel and see what works for you and your style! Carpe Diem ROYGBIV!!
If your not a huge fashion risk taker stay within one tone or shade. Mix a fire engine red with and orange red and maybe a dash of a magenta pink or keep warm colors with warm colors (flamenco red, dusty rose, mustard yellow, burnt sienna brown etc) and cools with cools (lily pad green, Robbin's egg blue, lilac purple, you see where I'm going with this...) If you like to make a statement and turn heads for even a trip to Mase, mix up contrastors (I'm not sure that is a word but it hasn't stopped me before) Wear the purple shirt dress with the orange fitted blazer. But caution here gals, love the show Ugly Betty but DON'T covet her wardrobe. If you do pair contrasting colors together keep it to maybe just two? If your rocking the dress in one color and the jacket in a total opposite pick on of those two for the bag and shoes or opt for a third neutral like black or brown - depending on what goes best with your look. Now that your armed with the rules and the how to keep scrolling to see how some Irish lasses on the town rocked the look as well as some of Hollywood's trendiest ladies, Mischa Barton, Lindsay Lohan, Lake Bell and Cheryl Cole.
Two lovely Irish ladies, Ally Garvey and Kerri Nicole, sport the look at the Lipsy Party in Dublin.
You can find great color block frocks st stores all over Ireland for some really low Prices like these two from TopShop: Both of these are under 50€
Or these from Oasis and Monsoon, all under 40€:

Spotlight On...Rosanna Davison

So I'm sure we all know the basics about Ms. D (and then some) but for those who don't, here goes;
Born in Dublin on the 17th of April 1984, Miss Davison is a highly successful print model based in Ireland. Not only did she hold the Title of Miss World in 2003 but she will always hold the (sometimes dreaded) moniker of Socialite, as she is the daughter of the highly successful singer/songwriter Chris DeBurgh.
Not content with just being a pretty face or well known-name Rosanna went ahead with her education and in 2006 she graduated from University College Dublin with B.A. in Sociology and Art History. The following year she finished up at the Fitzwilliam Institute with a Diploma in Event Managing.
Rosanna has done endless promotional photo calls and was at one time the Face of Holiday on Ice as well as campaigns for Rally England and Newbridge Silverware. She is managed by Storm in the UK and the great Assets of Dublin. Shes has over 17 television appearances as herself for both interview and presenting duties such as Xpose, Podge and Rodge and an upcoming series for RTE entitled 'Who Do You Think You Are'. Rumors have also swirled that she recently finished filming the lead in the Indie Irish Film 'Vena', directed by Kevin Abosch, though the project is yet to appear on eithers Internet Movie Database profile.
In November of 2008 Rosanna released a fitness DVD so we may all strive for her enviable figure. She is actively involved multiple charities and a paparazzi favourite.
So that was the boring stuff...Rosanna is a tabloid dream! Every where she goes she is pap'd (whether she calls them and tells them where she will be or not ;) Of late her love life has been more of a nightmare though, even with her well maintained dignified silence. She hasn't had much to say about her rift with former boyfriend Wesley Quirke (the wes half of her Brangelina like nickname Wesanna) other than they "need time a part" and the oft used "space" Good look getting space from an ex and a past relationship when every time you have a night out or a chat with a different fella a journo writes an article about 'what this might mean' the next morning.
Rosanna is safe, which apparently is what the world wants in a beauty queen judging by the recent fire storm in America over a pageant contestants answer to a question about same sex marriage. We will never see Roz falling out of a night club, showing too much skin or probably ever truthfully speaking her mind ( a la the late great Katy French).
Additionally, her fashion choices are always safe -whatever is the current trend she will wear but she is not one for setting trends herself. You can't blame her though. She is a beautiful and bright girl but for some women, a sense of style (or even basic fashion sense) evade them. Her recent outing to Peter Homan's art exhibit Rosanna tried to step away from the "over-glam-barbie doll -pageant girl of Dublin models look" for something a bit edgier and more chic, but she totally missed the mark. We applaud her for taking a chance and stepping outside her clothing-comfort zone but come 'Anna, less is more. Over styled, over accessorized and still overly made up, Rosanna looked more like she jumped head first into a TopShop Half Off bargain bin than a fashion forward young lady.
Love the shoes, but not with the hue of that coat. Love the bag but not with the printed hat and shirt. She nailed it with the smaller the details (i.e. the shades, the bangles) but they are lost in translation with everything else that is going on =Trend Overload! The oxford styled shoe, the skinny shiny-pant, the fitted jacket, the hat, WHOA! Calm down girl! There are people taking your pic everyday, spread it out!
Look below to see Rosanna at her 'I'm going to Krytstle but I look like I'm going to a grown up Debs' Best in a few sots below and Rosie, if you're reading, keep at everything you are doing you are a totally fab lady and such a role model just maybe, pick up a copy of InStyle once in a while?
