Spotted Out - Racing Edition

While plenty of racing fans headed to Leopardstown on Saturday for some serious horsey action, there were two other very good reasons to hit the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes - Celag Watching and Fashion! With a €5,000 shopping voucher up for grabs chic ladies swarmed the racecourse in their finest, and the competition was as fierce off the track is it was on! A keen equestrian herself, our girl Laura Toogood, remarked of the Stakes "Sea the Stars stole the show, [he] ran a superb race." As for the fashion stakes? Miss Tooogod pretty much stole the show herself! Coming in 3rd in the Ladies Best Dressed Race, Laura was stunning in a turquoise (nobody wears this colour better than she!) LK Bennet dress with a matching handbag. Being a recessionista-fashionista after our own heart, she completed the look with shoes from Penney's and topped it all off with a phenomenal hat she scooped up at Debenhams. Chic, talented, a brilliant shopper and smart! We'd hate her if she wasn't one of the sweetest girls on earth! TV3's newest member of the Xpose Team, Sean Musjane, was on hand to dole out the awards with sponsor Lipton's Grainne Galvin. The two searched high and low around the track, narrowing it down to 10 finalist and finally a top 3. Gift certs from fab boutiques like Lara and Fran & Jane were up for grabs as well as a weekend stay at Monart Spa. Ok I know, now the important part - who was there!! Celebs, socialites and models all buzzed about Leopardstown on the day. As mentioned model (and absolute doll) Laura Toogood enjoyed the race with boyfriend Nicky Arnold, VBFF Rosanna Davison, Rosie's other half the gorge Wesley Quirke, and the lovely and talented Marissa Mackle. Miss Mackle was oh so FAB in a green and black patterned dress from BT2. The totally glamorous Chloe Arnold kept it chic in greys and blacks on the arm of her boyfriend, the musician Justin Manville. There was a strong Assets vibe on race day, as the agency's lovely ladies strutted the catwalk within the Lipton's tent for a special fashion show. Naomi Cullen and Aoife Cogan showed off hot new threads, with Kerri Ingram and Julie Kavanagh worked the crowd for Lanson Champagne. Also from the TV3 family, Dennis Kirwan was about interviewing sporting heroes from Eamonn Coughlan, Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn and rugby god Rob Kearney in part of the ALL-Ireland Championship Weekend. There you have it, another weekend in the life of the FAB and wonderful! As I am stuck in doors this weekend I have to thank my FAB informant for keeping me abreast of this weekend's happs! xxox enjoy your Sunday kiddies!

Spotted Out - First Week September '09

Volkswagen debuted their new Golf GTI in Leopardstown Pavilion on Wednesday night to loads of Celags and FAB people...

Our personal FAV Laura Toogood attended with gorge Irish author pal Marissa Mackle and Assets model Naomi Cullen. Social-Diarist Demi-God Wayne Cronin, the adorable and talented Darren Kennedy and a few Leinster Rugger-Buggers sprinkled about (which was fitting since Volkswagen announced their new sponsorship deal with Leinster!) helped to even out the Testosterone level on the evening.

Miss Toogood was seen looking glam in a short yellow dress, black Kurt Geiger ankle boots and black tailored jacket from the M&S Petite Range. Marissa was stunning in an Electric Blue dress with red heels and Naomi kept it chic and sophisticated in black. Yummy models Diana Dononlly and Georgia Salpa were there working the promotion in sex red jumpsuits and GTI caps!

Sounds oh so FAB!

Seasonal Change

Usually you here about couples splitting up at the start of Summer. Lets face it, it is the sexiest season going and if you are thinking about ditching our current situ at all the start of Summer is the time to do. I mean, if you are going to be single don't you want it to be when you are at your tannest and most scantily clad. Since we normally think of winter as the time you want to hunker down with the one you love and start to nest, you very rarely see people going separate ways with the onset of Autumn. Well leave it to some Dublin 'It' girls to switch things up! I mean, is it me or are gliteratti couplesdropping like flies? Glad to see one FAB couple are staying true to Seasonal Trend.... Regardless of the weather we are happy for all and wish nothing but the best for each party involved!

Fall Trend : Green Nails

First Lindsay and Lily sported Deep Blues, then Lauren 'LC' Conrad and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz were all about the Black and after that every starlet was rocking any and every shade from Lilac to Aubergine. Finally, comes a nail colour trend that every lady in this nation can get behind; green!

The options are endless with this earthy tone - from Seafoam to Emerald - you can find a colour to suite your personality, mood or even outfit!

Spotlight On; Suzanne McCabe

Suzanne McCabe is a highly sought after model with that killer combonation of beauty and brains. Along with all her glitzy model work there seems to be nothing that makes Suzanne happier than working tirelessly for the safety and welfare of animals. We got to know Suzanne a little better when we chatted 'bout work, clothes, partying, boyfriends and puppies!

Describe a typical work week for you as a working Irish model. Luckily there is no such thing as a typical week in modelling. Every day has something different be it fashion shows, press calls, photo shoots for catalogues/ magazines/ company advertising, launches, openings, competition judging, TV work, interviews or castings. Some weeks will be extremely busy, others will be quieter, at which time it is important to keep busy with client go-sees and portfolio work.

What is the biggest misconception about you? models? or modeling?

Probably the idea that you can't have brains as well as beauty. A lot of the modeling jobs require more organisation and self management than a typical job in a company whereby you are given specific work and micro managed by numerous managers. In Ireland there is a misconception that modelling simply requires standing on Grafton street in a bikini. However, this misconception is probably down to the fact that these photo shoots are the ones that get plastered in papers. There is a lot of other work that gets overseen such as fashion shows, clothing and product marketing, fundraising and charity work.

If you read some other blogs and sites, the authors or comments are kind of nasty about a lot of the girls in your industry. How do you deal with negative attention like that?

It comes with the territory. If you are weak skinned then modelling is not the career for you. After a while such commentary, be it negative or positive, rolls off your back. Once you are a strong person who knows your strengths and weaknesses these will serve as your only grounding. Nasty comments say more about the person leaving them than the person they are indicated at.

Is there really a big rivalry between Compton and Assets models or is that just a bunch of smoke?

Is there a rivalry between Compton and Assets? I haven't experienced it to date. Many of my jobs have been inter-agency and we have always gotten on great. It is just a job for us and Ireland is too small a place to be creating enemies. Most of the time we all end up socialising on the weekend together.

Anything exciting coming up for you -work or otherwise- that you are really looking forward to?

I'm really looking forward to the launch of the new PETA anti-fur campaign which is happening this month. I have been chosen as the face of PETA's first Irish campaign, which has previously been done by the likes of Christy Turlington, Pamela Anderson, Eva Mendes, Jamelia etc. It is such a great cause and a good way to get the message across about fur farming in Ireland. It is a little known fact that Ireland has five fur farms, exposing mink and fox to the most cruel existences and death possible. I am also looking forward to joining up with the Animal Rights Action Network this Thursday to campaign against hare coursing in Ireland. I have recently moved to Assets modeling agency, which is pretty exciting and I’m really enjoying working with the girls there.

Being so beautiful, and a model, you must get loads of attention, how does your boyfriend deal with that?Is he supportive of your modeling?

My boyfriend was one of the greatest influences in my decision to leave Management Consulting and take on modeling as a new career. He is incredibly supportive and his help and suggestions have always played a massive part in any work I have undertook. He understands that I am able to manage any unwanted attention and will always be close by my side should I need some extra support. On beginning modeling he went so far as to buy a gym for the house (which has only been used a handful of times since then!).

You are photographed out a lot, are you a party girl, or actually a homebody who just happens to get snapped often?

Do I have to be one or the other? I would consider myself as an extroverted introvert, who enjoys a lot of quiet time but needs to get out and enjoy myself over a few drinks with friends regularly. There is nothing I enjoy more than a night in with a vegetarian domino's pizza watching the late late snuggled up with the family (boyfriend, 2 dogs and 2 cats). Then I'm often reminded that you are only young once, so I'll put on my Ginas and hit the town!

What do you like to do when you are not working? How or where do you chill out and unwind?

Right now I'm spending a lot of time with my new pups trying to train them in. They are stubbornly going to the toilet all over the house. Its never pleasant walking barefoot into a fresh one on your way down to breakfast in the morning. I bring them for walks around Marlay Park or down the pier with the girls.

Other days I will be volunteering in the DSPCA or campaigning with the Animal Rights Action Network. Other than that I love spending time with my sister and nephew who is almost two. Going to the cinema, out for dinner, shopping, eBay-ing, playing tennis, and most recently golfing. I try to get out and do something most evenings as it beats sitting around watching TV and getting lazy! I'm not a TV fan but have been glued to the 24 box set for the past couple of weeks- it is AMAZING! Are you a GLAM girl at heart? Do you like the fashion, the hair, the makeup - Or is it just all part of the job for you?

I am definitely a glam girl at heart. Thus, getting paid for taking a greater interest in all of the things I love is an added bonus for me! I'm often asked to do my friends makeup and nails and would consider taking it up professionally at some stage down the line.

What is the most LUXE item in your personal wardrobe?

Ah...Tough one! I don't have one, rather my seven pairs of Gina shoes.I love them all equally! I'm an awful magpie- anything that sparkles I go nuts for.

Define your personal style. Where do you like to shop? Do you have a FAV designer or fashion house? My style seems to be always re-inventing itself. Its come a long way since my teenage years as a rocker where I'd only be seen in combats, Doc Martins, ripped t-shirts, 'Dennis the Menace jumpers etc. (although some would say it hasn't!!!). I go over to New York once a year to stock up on shopping. For dresses and bling you cant beat Lara Boutique on Dame Lane- their stuff is amazing! My favourite jeans are True Religions and Rock and Republics, but if you don't have the cash to splash you can't beat Bershka for their amazing fitting jeans.

Finally, where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years time?

I don't have any specific map planned out for myself. With such a diverse job you never know which route you will end up going down. I have always had an interest in acting and TV work. However, I could end up with my sleeves rolled up, elbow deep in muck if I decide to give 100% of my time to helping animals. One thing I learned in my last career is never to waste time in life doing something you are not happy in.

I tried a new cocktail in New York this year and have been trying to recreate it since. It was a White Chocolate Martini, where the glass was dipped in melted white chocolate first so it all drips down the side....HEAVEN!

Fall Cleaning!

With the onset of fall we all want to update our looks and clean out our closets. The best part of the new season is switching up our style and updating all our products!

Don't forget that when you splash out on new make up for the autumn months, it is important to keep all your tools at their working best.

Most cosmetic Zionists will assure you that it is of the utmost importance to clean up and condition your make up brushes on a weekly basis. Even I don't subscribe to this, it seems a bit mental, but it is important to keep them tidy!

Though most of the time we apply fresh make up to a spanking clean face, daily and routine touch ups are done to shiny, oily faces, slick with pollutants and germs. After that you stick the brush back into your make up bag or even worse - dip it back into some of your products!

So although I don't feel you need to donate a night each week to the sanitization of your beauty tools, I'm sure you see no why regular cleaning is important!

If you've spent a pretty penny on high end make up brushes you owe it to yourself to care for them properly as washing your brushes will make them last even longer!

Keep reading if you'd like some do it yourself tips for keeping them fresh!

• Start off by running the brush - handle up, bristle down - under some luke warm water in your clean bathroom sink. Swirl the brush in the water until the water runs clean.
• Add a small amount of gentle shampoo in to the palm of your hand and then gently dab the bristle tips into it.
• Rinse your hand and the brush thoroughly and then using a towel, wring out the water from the brush's tip. Make sure you get all the soap and water out of the brush so that it can retain it's original shape. Lay the brushes flat down on a towel to dry for a few hours.

**Always remember to be very careful when you share your make up brushes or pads with a gal pal because it may lead to an icky infection!***
