HEADS UP!

A new study completed in London and released yesterday claims that tanning/sun beds are "as deadly as arsenic".

Though we have pretty much always known that these beds were damaging to the skin, it has now been shown that all types of ultra violet radiation leads to cancer causing mutation proving to be lethal while initial one one type of ultra violet rays were thought to be this harmful.

Apparently, the risk of skin cancer jumps a woping 75% when people start frequenting sunbeds before the age of 30! In Britain, melanoma, the deadliest kind of skin cancer, is now the leading cancer diagnosed in women in their 20s. Normally, skin cancer rates are highest in people over 75.

Spreading Some Irish Love...

I honestly can't think of a hotter Irish Specimen to be conquering the world than the leggy Nadine Coyle! (OK Obv we can think of some equals) Nadine has been doing Ireland proud now for years as not only the hottest, sweetest and most talented member of GirlsAloud but soon it seems she'll be doing it all on her own!

Although they have stated emphatically that the girl group is not set to split, Nadine and fellow Cheryl Cole are both kick starting solo careers! Despite Cheryl's overwhelming UK popularity (thanks in part to XFactor, in part to her WAG appeal and in part to her ridiculously shiny hair) it is Nadine that all the major American music execs are after as three top record labels are said to be in a bidding war to sign her.

"It looks like Universal - a subdivision of the Girls Aloud label Fascination - will produce Nadine's solo shot. But whoever wins her will have to pay a lot because everyone's desperate to sign her. She will get an amazing deal as a result of shopping around," claims a source.

Our lovely Derry lady will start to record her solo offerings in LosAngeles later this year and I for one cannot wait to see what she has on offer!

Not Buying It...

The blogs are a buzz 'cause of snaps like these in which both JRM and Ms. Hammer are seen wearing bands on their ring fingers...Obviously they have reunited(again!) but I am highly doubtful that they are married or even engaged. There have been loads of rumbling bout Jonny's activities during their most recent split and even the stupidest of ladies wouldn't enter into a contract of marriage with him if any of it was even nearly true....suppose we will all see in good time but for right now, I'm not buying it!

Just cause I felt like it...

I haven't posted about Rosanna Davison in a while, which is a bit of sin really. Cineál Saoil loves Rosie, and she and her style, glam life and exciting comings and goings were one of the inspirations for our blogging!

The Celtic Tiger may have been tamed for now but for me, Rosanna brought a glamour to our island that we were lacking before she burst on the scene. She is definitely one of the people that helped to make Dublin fashionable, fab, and chic and as long as she is still running about town in stilettos, a party frock and her trademark big smile, we will never let this recession get us too down or give up on the pursuit of a glam & fab Irish life!

Recessionista

In honour of the recession this year, I am doing something for the Galway Races that I have never done before - I am not buying a single new thing! Gasp! Shock! Horror! I know...Truth is, I'm lucky, I have a great job, good apartment, no worries at all. I could buy a new frock, hat, anything if I wanted but, I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about just how necessary it all is. I'm not famous, so no one is snapping me in the same dress twice. And what if I was? What if I really liked the way I looked in a dress? it fit really well? it was comfy? Would I still not be aloud to wear ever again....seems a bit harsh on the dress like! Anyway, while trying to distract myself from my lost mobile last night (which I got back, yeay!) I decided to g shopping my closet. 12 minutes into the exercise I decided I wold not spend a single cent on my outfit for the races, I'd do my own hair, make up and even nails-with items I already have! If it goes alright, perhaps it will become my thing, if I look dreadful...well it was all in the pursuit of my experiment! Anyway, here is what I've decided on for the day, an Alberta Ferretti dress I wore to a film premiere earlier in the spring, the fascinator (by Veronica Ryan) I wore to my sister's engagement part, a David Yurman necklace I got in New York last Christmas, my trusty dusty nude Chrissy Lubes that have paid for themselves already 10x over I wear them so much, my silver Chanel bag I got as a birthday gift last year, a CD cocktail ring I nicked from a friend (I've had it over a year and she knows it!), my Roberto Cavalli sunnies that I always bust out for the races, and a few bits and pieces from my make up bag that don't need replacing!

Style Prediction...

I know nobody wants to think about autumn on a beautiful July Friday like this one but...Fall Fashion Trend....cuff and wrap watches...

I, of course, like these Hermes ones...

But I found a cute, charm adorned brand called La Mer that are much less expensive, only problem is I'm having a hard time locating a site that will ship to Ireland....

Oh well, if my prediction is right they will be readily available this side of the pond come September!

Real Appeal...

Right after her gorge almond shaped Disney Princess-like eyes, two things really struck me about Doireann Gately; ONE she has a real individual sense of style and knowledge of fashion - name dropping real designers and not just the obligatory ones, and even the most current of top models. TWO she made it perfectly clear that she doesn’t fancy herself an ‘It’ girl, a known name, a top or glamour model. She has absolutely no pretenses about who or what she is, and that can be hard to come by in this town. Ms. Gately is currently enrolled at DCU and is going into her final year of an economics, politics & law degree. Doireann is a college student, a bright college student who happens to be very pretty and like fashion, so she makes some extra dosh on the side doing modeling and promotional work. Doireann is represented by Pose which I think fits perfectly as their slogan is “It’s beauty that captures your attention; personality that captures your heart.” She was just recently working on a campaign for the Nintendo Wii which took her to both London and Scotland. We had seen Doireann out and about many times. She always looked so polished and put together without really trying which is something we love but, her unaffected down to earth demeanor is the real clincher! When we got a few minutes with her we just had to ask some fashion and beauty questions and here is what she had to say; Are there any celebs out there whose style you really admire, who are your Fashion Icons? I love the way both[the model] Chanel Iman and [the actress] Rachel Bilson dress!

So when it is time for you to go shopping where do you head? Are there any big fashion houses or designer’s who looks and clothes you covet? My favourite shops are topshop and Urban Outfitters. I like Zara too and, if I had the money, I’d live in Anna Sui and Zac Posen! When you aren’t working, or studying, what do you like to do and where do you like you do it? I read a lot and do yoga, I love going shopping and going out for drinks. I love running in Phoenix park and bringing my dogs on walks.

FAV Cocktail? A Cosmo! Of course, why did we even ask!! You’re out shopping – perfume or lip gloss? Lip gloss! I have loads of them; the only perfume I ever wear is Chanel Chance. – Handbags or shoes? Handbags, I spend much more on bags than on shoes! Well there you go, a few little tidbits about a thoroughly enjoyable and gorgeous gal Miss Doireann Gately!

All tied up...

If you are like me than you dig the whole summer scarf trend. It is a versatile easy way to change the look of an outfit, add colour to an ensemble, and instantly make you feel chic and trendy. Perhaps though, like me, you are getting a little sick of just slinging them round your neck...? Well I am and I did a little web surfing this afternoon to find four different ways to rock your new fav fab scarves! A halter top

1. Lay the scarf down with the dull side facing up (36" inch square — if you want more coverage, go bigger).

2. Take the middle of the scarf and tie a small knot (right in the middle).

3. Tie two of the corners around your neck and the other two corners around your waist. Pair this with a flowing boho skirt or wide leg bell bottoms and you are good to go! *this one is tricky so I included a little diagram!

A belt

This may seem like the easiest and most obvious one but it really does wonders for cinching the waist. Also if you are wearing a bottom and a top of the same colour that may not be the exact shade this is a great way to breka the look up and not draw too much attention to the difference in hues or if you are wearing a long blouse or oversized tunic like top, tying it up with a belt can help to prevent it look as though you are swimming in it!

1. Lay the scarf out flat.

2. Fold the scarf into a triangle and roll it, starting at one corner, until you have one long, tubelike scarf.

3. Put it through the loops of jeans or slacks and tie a knot in the front.

A purse 1. Take any square scarf (36" by 36" is standard — go bigger if you want to go bigger). Lay it with the dull side facing up.

2. Take two opposite corners and tie them into a square knot.

3. Then take the last two opposite corners of the scarf and tie those into a square knot. This will become the handle for the bag. You now have a colourful little purse and you will be shocked by just how muchthis baby can hold!

*if you've got a particularly large scarf and are feeling crafty, go ahead and braid the "straps" like the above pic!

Headband 1. Start with a square scarf. Fold it in half to form a triangle and then fold inward until you get the desired width. Smooth the long portion across your forehead and tie the ends in knot under your hair.
